The Story Behind Malarkodi Velu Educational Trust

The Malarkodi Velu Educational Trust was founded with a simple yet powerful vision—to transform lives through education.

The inspiration behind the trust is Mr. N. Velu, affectionately known as “Velu” by his friends and well-wishers. A successful entrepreneur based in Mumbai, Mr. Velu has always been known for his compassion, generosity, and commitment to helping others. Throughout his life, he has extended support to countless individuals from different walks of life—sometimes through financial assistance and, at other times, through his wisdom, guidance, and encouragement.

After establishing himself professionally and ensuring the well-being of his family, Mr. Velu felt a deep sense of gratitude towards the society that had contributed to his success. He wanted to give back in a meaningful and lasting way.

“Educate one deserving person, and you empower many more.”

As he explored different avenues of social service, several questions came to mind. Should he feed the poor? Should he establish an old-age home? Should he start an orphanage? While each of these causes was noble, he believed that there had to be a solution that could create a long-term impact.

During discussions with close friends and like-minded philanthropists, including Mr. Eswarappan, Mr. Kannan, Mr. Dakshanamurthy, Mr. Maha Babu, and several others, a shared vision emerged. Together, they concluded that education is the most powerful tool for empowering individuals and uplifting entire families.

They believed that educating one deserving student would not only transform that individual’s life but would also positively influence many others connected to them.

With this vision, the Malarkodi Velu Educational Trust was established in 2011, named jointly in honour of Mr. N. Velu and his wife, Mrs. V. Malarkodi.

The trust is dedicated to supporting deserving and financially needy students from the Udayar community of the North Arcot district, helping them pursue education and build brighter futures. Since its inception, the trust has remained committed to its founding belief that education is the most meaningful investment in society and the strongest foundation for lasting change.
